Conference: Created to Belong - Celebrating Disability in the Image of God
held in the Howard Centre, Kilmarnock on 23rd May 2026
ACTS provided a £5000 grant to fund the majority of the cost of this conference organised by the ecumenical group Reachout Together in partnership with Prospects Across Scotland, Roofbreakers and SPRED Galloway. There were over 100 attendees from a wide range of denominations at the event designed to celebrate and showcase best practices in disability inclusion in worship. Workshops equipped churches with practical tools to improve accessibility and churches were enabled to connect with relevant charities and access ongoing support. The conference has initiated new ecumenical work across Scotland with participants expressing interest in forming local disability-inclusion groups. The partner organisations are continuing to share resources online.
Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts:
16th-22nd August 2026
ACTS provided a £3000 grant towards the costs of this event organised by the charity Edinburgh Sacred Arts Foundation. It also received funding from the James and Jesse Shaw Trust and the H R Creswick Trust while grants for specific events were received from the Christian Arts Trust, the Edinburgh Society of Organists, the Royal College of Organists, the William Baird Ross Trust, Canonmills Church and the SCOPS Trust. Nineteen events and one exhibition were held across twelve church venues including music, poetry, drama, film and architecture. The opening service, held in St Giles for the first time, attracted a congregation of over 100. Approximately 160 professional, semi-professional and amateur artists and performers took part in the week’s events. Audiences and visitors to the exhibition were greatly increased on previous years. ACTS hopes that the success of the festival this year will be a move towards self-sufficiency as it is the policy of trustees not to provide ongoing subsidy for established events.
